The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully auctioned a Lagos hotel and three other high-value properties confiscated from convicted drug traffickers, generating a total of N6.149 billion for the Federal Government.
The properties, which were linked to drug-related crimes, had earlier been seized by the anti-narcotics agency and permanently forfeited to the Federal Government following court orders.
According to the NDLEA, the auction was conducted in line with legal provisions governing the disposal of assets recovered from criminal activities. The exercise forms part of the agency’s broader efforts to ensure that proceeds of illicit drug trafficking are stripped from offenders while strengthening the government’s fight against narcotics-related crimes.
Among the assets sold was a hotel located in Lagos, alongside three other prime properties. The combined sale fetched N6,148,964,000, marking one of the agency’s significant asset recovery exercises in recent times.
NDLEA officials said the auction process was transparent and followed due process, with interested bidders participating in accordance with established guidelines.
The agency noted that the forfeiture and disposal of criminal assets serve as a strong deterrent to drug traffickers and other criminal elements, demonstrating that illicit wealth acquired through unlawful activities can ultimately be recovered by the state.
Over the years, the NDLEA has intensified efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across Nigeria, leading to the seizure of large quantities of illicit substances, arrests of suspects, convictions, and the recovery of assets linked to drug crimes.
The latest auction underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to depriving criminal syndicates of the financial benefits of illegal drug operations while promoting accountability in the management of recovered assets.
